Lexie's Chain: The Seventy-Eighth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 78 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to Kelso to choose. Last week was Tom Robinson Band and 2 4 6 8 Motorway. Let's see wot happened this week!

@bvfeyj
Dis is a pretty roundabout linky. We hab 2 4 6 8 Motorway by da Tom Robinson Band and as Kelso say highway is what we calls da Motorway in da US... so me was finkin’ bout highway songs... den me fink about da Highwaymen & dere songs (boaf da country Highwaymen & da old folk group da Highwaymen) & den me fink dis road goes on foreber and it ain’t goin nowhere, which make me fink ob eben more songs & me couldn’t settle on anyfing, but den me finked dat da highway is also a road so if you take da high road & me take da low road... den me be in Scotland afore ye! Sad song but soooo beautiful!

@diamondbertie
I choose Convoy by CW McColl. Why? Last week's winner was Tom Robinson's Band with 2 4 6 8 I listened to it and then paid attention to to lyrics. They got me thinking of Convoy by CW McColl, remember the film of the same name with Kris Kristoferson and Ali McGraw? They are both about being on the road.

@patchdacat
My linky to follow on from 2-4-6-8 Motorway by Tom Robinson Band is “ Mrs Robinson” by Simon & Garfunkel.

@terenceterrier
I looked for another Motorway song to follow on from 2 4 6 8 Motorway which be last week’s winna. I finds “Motorway Song” wiv bittersweet lyrics by Leon Rosselson about a man losing his garden to transport development and recorded by The Black Family (wordies here http://www.frances-black.net/disco/songs/398.htm so you can all sing along) Sadly I couldna find their recording of it so carried on wiv Mum Mary Black & selected her bootiful rendishun of “Fields of Gold “ cos you’ll find those next to motorways.

@marleyterrier
I see that Kelso was choosin 2468 Motorway so we did be finkin of songs bout roads...likes Highway 61 from Bob Dillun and ... Ventura Highway by America...or Highway to hell by AC/Dc but we is confused by all the choices and we dissnt like tellin peeple wot...road to take so we let em go there own way ...he he...so we choose Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac...

@rettetkaninchen
There is lots more to say about "The English Motorway System" by Black Box Recorder.

@bunnersandharvs
Well dun to da Kelso for last week's selecshun. We deecided ta go wid numbers for our linky dis week so we dun gone wid anudder American band wot be called Chicago and der songy - 25 or 6 to 4. And dat do be dat!

@cloonfourmegan
We hasn't done this for ages and now we is in a rush this week. So we likes numbers in songs and we fink you should join the numbers up so to join up 2 4 6 8 motorway we chooses 5 6 7 8 by Steps! Also we likes doing the dance. Yeehah!

@wonderwinger
The song 2 4 6 8 Motorway immediately made me think of the lyric "3 6 9 the goose drank wine" from my imaginary box entitled "songs to teach counting". This lyric comes from my linky "T'Ain't What You Do (It's The Way That You Do It) by Fun Boy 3 featuring Bananarama. Fun Boy 3 was fronted by Terry Hall who had previously been in the New Wave band The Specials.

Both The Specials & the Tom Robinson dabbled in political activism. The Specials released "Ghost Town" which was about touring when you were in a racially mixed band in Thatcher's Britain. It became a rallying cry for the 1981 riots. Similarly, Tom Robinson had been one of the founding members of the 1976 Rock Against Racism campaign.

@rosieterrier
My linky do be 'Car Wash' by Rose Royce cos a cars gonna get dirrrty driving on dat dere motorway. Innit!

@djladylexie
Annuva song by TRB was Glad To Be Gay wot was written for da London gay pride parade 1976, written by Tom Robinson who was gay an proud. He later went on to declare he was bi-sexewal and re-released da song wiv references to being bi. Annuva singer wot came out (or was outed) and dun a song bowt it wot got im in trubble was George Michael wiv Outside and dat is ma linky.
