Lexie's Chain: The Fifty-Fifth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 55 of #lexieschain 2012. Dis week was down to me (i hates dussin it) to choose da winner, a hard task this week wiv so many great entries yet again! So I decided to get dad to do it so he wuddn't know who sended them in.
a
So, last week da winning linky was @wonderwinger (Briar) wiv The Smiths an What Difference Does It Make. Let's see wot we did get:

@terenceterrier
My linky is the 1978 No 1 hit single “Matchstalk Men & Matchstalk Cats & Dogs” by Brian & Michael. Why you say ? Well The Smiths were a group from Manchester. L.S.Lowry was a very famous artist from Manchester and dis song was written as a tribute to him. This YouTube version is pure class!

@bvfeyj (Tucker)
Me gonna keep it simple. Last week @wonderwinger winned wif "What Difference Does It Make" by The Smiths. Well, ob course da Smiths remind me ob another Smith... Patti Smith! So me suggest "Because the Night" by Patti Smith Group.

@patchdacat
I am selecting “Silence is Golden” by The 4 Seasons as my link this week because I listened to last week’s winning link and when it finished I really appreciated the silent section at the end of the YouTube listing.

@djladylexie
Ma linky dus be Never Mind The Buzzcocks an Ever Fallen In Love. Why? Well ….. Never Mind The Buzzcocks is a TV show wot featured almost a whole eposide abowt fings dat Morrisey hates. Morrisey also still dussnt discuss wheva he has been in love and his sexuality in general but likes to leave people guessin. The Smiffs were signed by Rough Trade Records, an independent record label as was the band Never Mind The Buzzcocks. They dun a song about falling in love wiv someone you shouldn’t. Morrisey refuses to talk about love or his orientashun and The Buzzcocks sing bowt it too!

@wonderwinger
My linky is A New England by the late graat Kirsty Macoll, a song written by Billy Bragg.
In 1986, Johnny Marr collaborated with Billy Bragg & Kirsty MacColl on the single, Greetings from the New Brunette. Kirsty MacColl also sung backing vocals on The Smiths song Ask.

@bunnerandharvs
we dus thort it was speshul dat Briar did win da Linky last week so we dus say - yay - first of all! So den, we dus been thanking bowt da linky and says da songy dis week is 'Creep' by da Pretenders. Why you dus say? Well, Johnny Marr wus an offishul member of der group fur a while and he did also produce dem to. And, and dis songy wus sung by da Radiohead wot wus influenced by Morrisey and da Smiths too. And, and, and dey wus all on Jools but den Mum says der wus many singers wot wus on his show except us we says. hee hee....

@i_am_fuzzy
people who haven't listened to the smiths lyrics may think that morrissey is a bit of a misery....okay, 'heaven knows i'm miserable now' may lead you to that concloosion and 'maudlin street' is hardly a laugh a minute...however, one of his 'idols' is oscar wilde - who no doubt influenced morrissey's lyrics including the intrumental 'oscillate wildly'. from there i link to another play on words from another manchester band - oasis 'the importance of being idle'

@rettetkaninchen
This week it is Patti Smith with Frederick. Why? Morressey and Maher met the first time in 1979 At a Patti Smith concert. She was playing for sure Frederick from her in 1979 released album Wave. There are rumours that The Smiths named their band also after Patti. =:X)

@kelsoterrier
Ok link this week to be made to The Smiths with What Difference Does It Make. Well, this song, like most/all Smiths songs is quite depressing. It was released in 1984 which made me think ov the depressing existence depicted in George Orwell's book Nineteen Eighty Four. This book was made into a film and the soundtrack was controversially performed by The Eurythmics. My link therefore is a Smiths song covered by the Eurythmics that is called Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me.

@diamondbertie
Etta James' Would it make any Difference Why: the link in the word "Difference" Etta James was great.

So ......... the winner of the 55th #lexieschain as chosen by @wonderwinger  ......... dus be ........... @terenceterrier wiv Matchstalk Cats an Dogs. Yay!!! Well done ma pal!

So well done to all pals! and is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you Terence.

So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 29 January 2012. Sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title! Ha-haaaaa - definitely works though!

Lexie's Chain dus be inspired by da pawsome Radcliffe & Maconie Show wot you can has a listen to on dere website. Follow me @dogstoyevsky or #lexieschain on Twitter to join da fun. Remember anyfink goes! Rock, classical, opera, ballads, punk, reggae - is up to you! Fanx for playin!

Lexie's Chain: The Fifty-Fourth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 54 of #lexieschain 2012. Dis week was down to me (i hates dussin it) to choose da winner, a hard task this week wiv so many great entries yet again! So I decided to get dad to do it so he wuddn't know who sended them in.

So, last week da winning linky was @djladylexie (me) wiv Uncertain Smile by TheThe.

@marleyterrier
Dis week I be nommynatin South Street by The Orlons. Uncertrain Smile was released as a single wiv Perfect on it too. We likes Perfect by Fairground Attraction. Dat record got to No.1 and was followed to No.1 by With a Little Help Fronm My Freinds by Wet Wet Wet. This Beatles song was also covered famously by Joe Cocker and a laydee wot be called Rosetta Hightower did da backin vocals on dat vershun. She was also da singer wiv The Orlons and so we nommynate her song cos we fink it bout time a name dat splendid be better known.

@I_am_fuzzy
From the last link which was the band 'the the', i suggest the band 'talk talk' because they repeat a word to make their name and better still they had a single called 'talk talk' which was released in 1982...the same year as 'uncertain smile' ;o)

@terenceterrier
TheThe??? Never heard of ‘em. Sounds like someone had a stutter when their agent asked for a catchy name for the group. In that case let’s go with a singer wiv a stutter. You know the one – the little Welsh lad who lost in the Pop Idol talent show final and was pals wiv Pricey for a while - Gareth Wotshisname. According to Wikipedia which everyone seems to use when desperately searching for some feeble and obscure linky in yet another even more desperate attempt to win this #lexieschain, this Gareth Gates recorded a track called Changes. No idea wot it sounds like and I don’t actually care cos there’s another track of the same name which sounds in places if the singer has a stutter but this one is by The One The Only The Greatest - David Bowie. Take it away lad *sings* Ch Ch Ch Ch Changes ....

@diamondbertie
My choice for this linkie is Frank Sinatra - I Got you Under My Skin. Why? That short sentence is in Uncertain Smile.

@kelsoterrier
Ok, dis week woz The The wif Uncertain Smile. My fav The The song iz Dogs of Lust and lead singer Matt Johnson's older brother who did most ov da artwork for The The album covers is called Andy Dog Johnson - all ov dis appeals to me coz I iz a dog ;-) Andy Dog's artwork is quite dark & sinister and Matt's other brother Gerard Johnson iz also talented and recently wrote and directed a film called Tony Serial Killer. Sticking wif da dark sinister theme I choose my favourite serial killer song which iz Psycho Killer by Talking Heads.

@wonderwinger
My linky is What Difference Does It Make by The Smiths. A single taken from their self-titled debut album & instantly recognisable by the opening guitar riff by Johnny Marr & Morrissey's falsetto vocal at the end. Paul Carrack was one of the session musicians who played keyboards on this album. He had also replaced Jools Holland in Squeeze in 1979. When The Smiths split, Johnny Marr was recruited to play guitar in TheThe linking us back to where we started with Uncertain Smile.

@bunnersandharvs
So den we dus be thinking bowt wot da linky could be fur dis week & so we dus go wid George Harrison singing wid da Beatles 'Within you without you' cus it like an uncertain smile init & we dus says do I be within or without you? Hrmm, hee hee & well Georgie wus also on da Joolsy Holland show too (well who wusn't Mum says) but we thort dis wus a songy wot makes us shimy shake aroundy too! BOL!

@bvfeyj (da #lexieschain Champion 2011)
Last week Lexie won (cheated) wif dat Jools Holland linky ;-) so me looked it up and turns out dat Jools Holland is also an aufer & he did do a book about da Rolling Stones "Rolling Stones: A Life on the Road" so me fink da Rolling Stones did hab a hit wif one ob da first songs dey wrote demselves which was da opposite ob any kind ob smile, uncertain or udderwise; so me say "As Tears Go By" by da Rolling Stones!

@patchdacat
The winning entry last week was by the group TheThe with Uncertain Smile. I go for another group with The in their name – The Who. The track I choose is “I Can’t Explain” because if you are uncertain you can’t explain so group and song title link nicely (even if I say so myself).

 An after much deliberashun by ma dad he has decided that ......... the winner of the 54th  #lexieschain as chosen by imself  ......... dus be ........... @wonderwinger wiv What Difference Does It Make by The Smiffs. He then said to say that @kelsoterrier's was also great .. he loves Talkin Eds and Dogs of Lust be his favourite TheThe song too, Kelso was a close second. Oh an he said to say that he say @terenceterrier's was his fird pick.

So well done to all pals! and is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you @wonderwinger!

So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 22 January 2012.

Lexie's Chain: The Fifty-Third Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 53 (I fort I just carry on wiv da numberin) of #lexieschain an da first of 2012!!  Dis week was down to @marleyterrier to choose da winner, a hard task this week wiv so many great entries yet again!

So, last week da winning linky was @marleyterrier wiv Louis Armstrong and When You're Smiling.

@bvfeyj (Tucker)
Last week we has Louis Armstrong wif "When You're Smiling" which make me fink ob anovver famous song he did do oposite ob dis which be Nobody Knows Da Trouble Me Seen. Dis song was performed at Armstrong's funeral by Al Hibbler but me could not find dat recording. Also at his funeral was lots ob uvver bery famous peoples like Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Pearl Bailey, Frank Sinatra and many more, including Miss Peggy Lee who did sing da Lord's Prayer, but perhaps her most famous song does be "Fever" so dat what me does pick for dis week's linky. "Fever" by Miss Peggy Lee.

@i_am_fuzzy
The last song was louis armstrong's 'when you're smiling', the next line being 'keep on smiling, the whole world smiles with you'. his top two well-known songs were 'what a wonderful world' & 'we have all the time in the world', which if you're observant you'll have seen a theme emerging....yes!! he likes singing about the world!! so i choose another song about the world....nirvana - 'the man who sold the world'

@terenceterrier
Last week’s winning linky song “When You’re Smiling” has been adopted by Leicester City Football Club as their club anthem. So I am choosing another football club anthem as my linky – “You’ll Never Walk Alone” by Gerry & The Pacemakers as this is the anthem of Liverpool FC.

@djladylexie
Ok linky from Louis Armstrong 'when you're smiling'. I as chosen Uncertain Smile by TheThe. Why? This song also mentions smiling but in the context of pain of unrequited love. It also features the most fantastic piano riff ever – played by Jools Holland. Jools Holland as also played many Louis Armstrong songs on his shows including Wonderful World and When You're Smiling. That the linky = Jools Holland.

@patchdacat
Last week’s winning link was “When you’re smiling” by Louis Armstrong. Dean Martin sometimes sang a parody of this song “When you’re drinking” . Sherry is a drink so I’m choosing “Sherry” by The 4 Seasons as my link.

@rettetkaninchen
Barbra Streisand with Woman in Love. Why? Barbra played together with Louis Amstrong in the musical movie "Hello Dolly". One of her greatest songs is "Woman in Love".

@bunnersandharvs
We dus been thorting bowt dis songy fur da first week dis year so we dus go wid Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong's Let's Call The Whole Thing Off. We dus chosed it caus dey wus in da past two linkies and da songy is bowt bein differnt and dey did luv each udder (shh wus sekret). we dus also likes it cus we dus mostly luv our tweety pals on twitter and dusn't care how dey sayz soissages or sauzzages or how dey dus pass us a drinky *snorts* we jus like dem so we dus says dis is s gerate songy to go wid fur da New Year and fur evaday rilly! hee hee,

@diamondbertie
I see it's Louis Armstrong's When Your Smiling. My choice is Limelight played by Mantovani. Why? The words when Charlie Chaplin composed it for the film of the same name were something like "Smile though your heart is breaking.........."

@rosieterrier
Hello... Well Louis Armstrong was of course known as Sachmo (Satchell mouth) due to the large aperture of his mouthy (good for chewing da big bones I say!). Anyway - High School Musical is a musical about school and satchels are used at school a lot. High Society is also a musical wiv da word 'high' in and featured Louis Armstrong. One of my fave songs from dis is "Little One" by Bing Crosby and dis is my linky. Also my mum sings dis song to me so it makes me go all gooey inside.

@wonderwinger
My linky is going to be the Tony Bennett song Fly Me To The Moon, as I think it is also a very appropriate tune to celebrate the wedding of @bonniethewestie & @Jackmcwestie Louis Armstrong was a great friend & contemporary of Tony Bennett. Bennett affectionately named Armstrong: Mr Jazz. In fact, one of Armstrong's hits "What a Wonderful World" was originally offered to Bennett to record.

The winner of the 53nd #lexieschain as chosen by @marleyterrier  .... dus be ........... oh no!!! erm ..... well I fink you can guess! Me wiv Uncertain Smile by TheThe. I sorry I  sorry!! I not cheatin ..... honest! Remember is blind vote!

Anyway is time again get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means me! Oh I hate avin to pick :( an I also know who sent em!

So, it's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 15 January 2012.

Lexie's Chain: The Fifty-Second Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to Week 52 of #lexieschain. Dis week was down to @bunnersandharvs to choose da winner, a hard task this week wiv so many great entries! And it is a year today since we started!! So fanx for playin and makin the chain such fun. Awards and prizes later, meanwhile, on wiv dis week!

So, last week da winning linky was Ella Fitzgerald and Sleigh Ride. Now dat is a hard linky too!

@rettetkaninchen (Miriam)
Ella, elle l'a by France Gall - Why? Ella, elle l'a (French for "Ella, she has it") is an amazing hommage to Ella Fitzgerald and a great 80ies song which is still played in radio.

@i_am_fuzzy
i choose carole king 'new year's day' the link being ella fitzgerald covered her song 'you've got a friend', also the last link was a christmas song (chosen on christmas day) - a different type of christmas song is a 'carol' (she was born without the e) & this week's link is being chosen on new year's day!!

@wonderwinger
The composition Sleigh Ride by Anderson & Parish has been recorded by many artists over the years. In 1978 it appeared on The Carpenters' album: A Christmas Portrait; also on this album was their Christmas hit Merry Christmas Darling. This song was originally released in 1970 as a Christmas follow up to We've Only Just Begun. For the first day of 2012 & to wish everyone a Happy New Year, I give you The Carpenters - We've Only Just Begun, take it away Karen...

@marleyterrier
My chaim this week is Louis Armstrong singin When You're Smiling. we chose dat one cos when dad was growin up his dad did ave record of Louis an ella Fitzgerald signin togevver. So is just sentimental …and also we do like the nice werds in da song *smiles*

@djladylexie
Ella Fitzgerald has sung many songs by famous composers such as Gershwin and Cole Porter. Ella Fitzgerald sang Summertime as Bess in Porgie and Bess, a story of a woman's struggle wiv drugs and violence caused by a bad man. Annuva song she sings is Miss Otis Regrets, a song about a woman who comes to a bad end because of a man. So my linky is Miss Otis Regrets but sung by Kirsty MacColl.

@cloonfourmegan
The composer of sleigh ride had the idea for the song during a heat wave. So the linky is Heat Wave by Martha and the Vandellas! Happy 2012.

@terenceterrier
“Sleigh Ride” is a winter song & was composed by Leroy Anderson who had the idea during a July heat wave in the summer. So I goes back to the song’s origins to find a linky. I chooses the song “Summertime” which was composed by George Gershwin. Lotsa people hav recorded it – notably in 1957 by Louis Armstrong & Ella Fitzgerald so this song also links back to singer of last week’s winning linky. But the vershun I choose for my linky is the one sung by Leona Lewis on 2006 X Factor.

@kelsoterrier
Ok, got to find a link to Ella Fitzgerald's cover ov Sleigh Ride. Well, like Sleigh Ride, which may not hav originally been intended as a Christmas Song, Ella also covered Baby, It's Cold Outside which also may not have been intended to be a Crimbo song but is now regarded as one. "Baby It's Cold Outside" is an anagram of "A Bed Boosts Lucidity" which is certainly true coz if u hav a good silent night's sleep u will be more lucid. So silence leads to lucidity which leads to my link which is the excellent Silent Lucidity by Queensryche.

@diamondbertie
My entry for the chain is "Cool Yule" by Louis Armstrong. Why? Ella Fitzgerald sang with Louis Armstrong and the Yule tide theme is in keeping with Sleigh Ride and the season. Is the this my earliest entry? I usually do a last minute rush.

@marthathewestie
Erasure - Chains of love. A tedious link but Ella Fitzgerald was born on April 25th so was Andy Bell of Erasure and the song be called *chains* of love ...just for lovely lexies chain.

@bvfeyj (Tucker)
we gots da Troika & da Sleigh Ride & well, da sleighs is drawn by horses! So we got dis song about a horse for our linky dis week. "Tennessee Stud" performed here by Doc Watson.

@zoetheborder
My entry for da chain is "Da Summer Wind" by Frank Sinatra. Dis is because Ella Fitzgerald was first African-American to perform at da Mocambo, a club in West Hollywood. In 1943, when he became a solo act, he made his Los Angeles debut at the Mocambo. And dat be all I can fink of because I dussn't know anyfing else to say about Ella Fitzgerald! BOL

@patchdacat
Since it is the anniversary of the chain this week I’m going to opt for an anniversary link. In 1968 there was a Hammer horror movie called The Anniversary which starred Bette Davis. The title song for the movie was a cover by The New Vaudeville Band of “Waves of the Danube”. Although Romanian in origin it became known as “The Anniversary Song” in the USA .

@borderpup
We have bin reminded this Christmas that Andy Williams also sang Sleigh Ride, and he did used to have a tv show where he sang wiv his bruvvers every Christmas. Another group of bruvvers got their break on his show, and they were the Osmonds. So, we choose 'Let Me In' by the Osmonds.

The winner of the 52nd anniversary #lexieschain as chosen by @bunnersandharvs .... dus be ........... @marleyterrier! Yay!
