Lexie's Chain: The One Hundred and Sixth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 105 of #lexieschain. Last week the winner wos me wiv Oh! Carol by Neil Sedaka. So lets see wot we gots dis week.

@smcheetham
My link this week is to do with Neils your song was by Neil Sedaka another famous Neil in music is Neil Tenant from the Pet Shop Boys. All you dogs must like the pet shop. So my tune is West End Girls by the Pet Shop Boys. That's all.

 @claptonterrier
You chose a song by Neil Sedaka. His father, Mac Sedaka, was a taxi driver . Joni Mitchell wrote a song called Big yellow Taxi…which we like very much…and that was eventually covered by Counting Crows and Vanessa Carlton. The Counting Crows wrote a very lovely song called Mr Jones….so that is our link this week…and here is the video (complete with Spanish subtitles!!

@wonderwinger
Aha well done Lexie on your first win of the year, always good to get one on the board early. Oh! Carol was written by Sedaka with Howard Greenfield they also collaborated on my linky: Is This Way To Amarillo by Tony Christie. I love the video made with Peter Kay in 2005 for Comic Relief; always good for a Sunday giggle.

@diamondbertie
Last week's winner was the lovely Oh Carol by Neil Sedaka, a song of yearning I keep to the theme of yearning with Spike Jones and His City Slickers' Chloe lets just say it's different.
@bunnersandharvs
So den we dus be very proud of da Lexie for winning da linky last week by an oldie and a goodie. We going to continue w da theme of Neil Sedaka and choose a favourite songy we dus sing and danse to in da house dat Neil Sedaka co-wrote. It is sung by da Captain and Tennille and is called Love Will Keep Us Together. Hit it pals. Danses round. Love will keep us togetha.... BOL!

@rosieterrier
Cool, well done to da DJ Lady Lexie for her win last week. I do choose The Rolling Stones 'Worried About You' this week. That is because the Rolling Stones also sang a song called Carol, on their very first album ever (I finks Mr Sedaka did influence Mr Mick eh?). *Sings* "Sometimes I wonder why you do these things......"

@terenceterrier
Our moosical madam Lexie winned da chainy last week wiv Oh Carolâ By Neil Sedaka . Da name Carol iz offen the shortened vershun of Caroline. I iz simple so I keeps my linky simple. My linky be Caroline by Status Quo *stands in corner head banging & wigglin backside at same time*

@bvfeyj
Da links for Neil Sedaka are legion. He was prolific songwriter, who wrote for and performed wif so many ob da popular artists. He also hab a cousin who bery talented performer as well, so me does fink dat be good linky. Da hard part is deciding which song... an den me sees dat she recorded one ob Neil Sedaka’s most well known songs “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do”. Me listen to dis and fink it like a whole nother song when she do it but it still bery good, so linky dis week is Ms. Eydie Gorme wif “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do”.

@borderpup
Dis week we have to link to 'Oh Carol', which was written by Neil Sedaka. He and Carol King were both songwriters in the famous Brill Building in New Yoik, where lots of other songwriters and music publishers did have there offices. One of the other songwriters there was Burt Bacharach and he wrote lots of hits, including 'The Look of Love' which was a hit for our very own Dusty Springfield (it is also another love song!).

@patchdacat
Last week the winning linky was Oh Carol by Neil Sedaka. I sees that quite a few people have covered this song including The Four Seasons on their album Sherry & 11 Others. Sherry can also be a name for a girl so choose this track as my linky.

@kelsoterrier
Last week we had Carol by Neil Sedaka. For my link this week I am going for another song with a girl's name in it by another Neil. This other Neil, as chance would have it, also went to the same school as Neil Sedaka (albeit a couple of years later) which was Lincoln High in Brooklyn. The song is Sweet Caroline and the singer is Neil Diamond.

Dad said this:
Where's the techno??!! Where's Girls Aloud!?? Haha only jokin! Bertie's link was great! I liked all the various family/Neil/Carol links. So, my choice is Counting Crows and Mr Jones! Well played little furry friend! Close second was Kelso with Neil Diamond followed by Tucker!

So............. da winner dis week .... as chosen by ma dad ......................... dus be ................ @claptonterrier! Yay!! Well done CT!

Now is time to get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you Kelos!!

Lexie's Chain: The One Hundred and Fifth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 105 of #lexieschain. In case you missed it, the Chain Champ of 2012 was Briar @wonderwinger .. yay!! Well done ma pal. So lets see wot we gots dis week.

@skye613 (new player!!)
Congrats to Tucker (@bvfeyj ) for the winning linky. Carole King's Tapestry. This song does have this line "And a coat of many colors, yellow green on either side." My link suggestion is " A Coat of Many Colors " by Dolly Parton . Both Carole & Dolly are prolific composers.

@smcheetham
Hope all fellow chainees are keeping warm and cosy. My link this week is based on the word king. The last track was by Carole King that made me think of Elvis the King of rock and roll. My fave Elvis song is You Were Always on my Mind so that's my suggestion. You Were Always On My Mind by Elvis Presley.

@borderpup
We has to do a linky from Tapestry by Carol King. Hmm, well if you look at the cover of the album it came from (also called Tapestry!) you will see there is a CAT right at the front. Yeah, that's right, wot a cheek! Anyhoo, the name of the cat was Telemachus, a useful fing to know for trivia quizzes. Telemachus was a character from Greek miffology, who was the son of Odysseus. Now, according to miff, Odysseus was imprisoned on an island by Calypso (not the drink of the same name). So, my linky is Calypso by Suzanne Vega!

@kelsoterrier
My brain is fried. Too many things to link to Carole King coz she's so amazing! Right, gotta pick something. Hmm, well, a carol about a King is Good King Wenceslas so I'll start there. Apparently Wenceslas was considered a martyr and a saint immediately after his death in the 10th century, when a cult of Wenceslas grew up in Bohemia. Wait a cotton picking minute...Bohemia...that sounds like a rhapsody to me. Not a rhapsody sung by a King tho but by his wife...Queen! So that's my link Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Off to rest my brain now!

@bvfeyj
Last week Tucker @bvfeyj (dat’s me!) did win wif Tapestry by Carole King. So me fink dat me find a linky to King. Well dere is lots ob links, lots ob kings! We gots Kings of Music showcase/festival, Nat King Cole, B. B. King, Kings and Queens of the Stoneage, Kings of Leon, King Biscuit, Michael Jackson was known as King of Pop Music, and Elvis was King of Rock and Roll, Bob Marley, King ob Reggae, but one we has not heard from on da #lexieschain so far me not fink is da Polka King, Frankie Yankovic. Unfortunately tho dis song was recorded by Frankie me could not find da bideo wif Frankie himself so me gib you a cober ob “In Heaven There Is No Beer”. Dis get you paws tapping! Hoop-de-doo!

@patchdacat
Clever paws Tucker won the chainy last week with “Tapestry” by Carole King. A tapestry is a piece of material sewed with lots of pretty colours. There was a famous coat made of lots of pretty colours. I thinks of course of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Who was your favorite Joseph ? Jason? Donny? Lee ?

Well I gives you all three at once so everyone happy - they be singing “Any Dream will do” which be my linky.

@claptonterrier
Mr Tucker chose a lovely song by Carole King…..she was music royalty in the 1970s…which got us thinking about royalty….and that lead us to thinking about Kings!…Paul King….er…Mark King of Level 42….yikes, better do more thinking….er Queen!…oh Lord no….how about a prince? YES! Phew!….our choose this week is Alphabet Street by Prince…. it makes us shuffle our paws.

This is the link we found: http://vimeo.com/12535956 as it does not appear on YOutube …..i am not sure it its easy to embed Vimeo clips onto Blogger.

LEXIE SAYS: NO VIDEO ON YOU TUBE .. STOOPID YOUTUBE! So watch da vimeo one by clickin on da linky please fanx!

@bunnersandharvs
Well done to Tucker for a most egsepshunal choicy last week in #lexieschain. Dat album dus be a favourite in dis house. So we did think about Carole and da songys and people she did sing wid and one of dem hoomans was James Taylor. It seems dat not only did he encourage her to singy wing her own songies on Tapestry, dey was also good friends; so much so dey did a tour together so dey must be good pals fur sure. So dis made us go wid James Taylor's 'Shower the people you love with love' for our linky cause if you is good pals you always shower dem with love and love is a tapestry of emoshuns and things like dat. TaDa!!

@djladylexie
Ooo we loves Carole King. We decided on a song in honour of her as she is so awesome! What song I hear you ask? Well none uvva dan Oh! Carol by Neil Sedaka who was her classmate and inpsired him to write dis song!

@terenceterrier
The winning linky last be Carole King & Tapestry. (Well dun Tucker - get a score on da board early) This make me fink of another Carole King song “You’ve got a friend” & cos all anipals have friends if dey are on Twitta & play #lexieschain. But I finks some more & remembers some famous friends on TV – Harvey & Rabbit - so I choses their little songy “Friends” as my linky (LEXIE: I LOVE THIS AD!!!)

@rosieterrier
Well done Tucker, what a beautiful song. I have a quick link this week. Carole King also sung a song called 'So Far Away' as did Dire Straits. I choose 'Love Over Gold' by Dire Straits, simply because it's a beautiful song.

@wonderwinger
Thank you Tucker, for getting Carole King back in #lexieschain. Tapestry contains some of my favourite songs, one of them (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman was originally recorded by Aretha Franklin. Aretha Franklin's follow up to this single was Respect which was also written by another artist: Otis Redding. My link shall therefore be the lovely Otis Redding's (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay.

So............. da winner dis week .... as chosen by @bvfeyj (Tucker!) dus be ................. me! Oh!!!! Well done me! Ere wot Tucker said:

Wow, dis bery difficult choice to make! Dey was all good linkies. Dolly Parton made mom cry! *wipes tears* & we did lub Harvey & Rabbit! Ob course Otis Redding always good. Still me does hab to choose and me say Oh! Carol by Neil Sedaka. Here da link to da original bideo -it eggzactly da same! LMTO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiTtfz2PZJw (Apologies to whoeber suggested Alphabet Street by Prince dat me was not able to see dat one. Da vimeo link crashed my puter and da uvver one said was disabled in my country! Still me did find anuvver linky to da song... just not da one you choosed.)

Now is time to get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you the dad!

It's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 27 January 2013 (gots to get it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title!

Lexie's Chain dus be inspired by da pawsome Radcliffe & Maconie Show wot you can has a listen to on dere website. Follow me @dogstoyevsky or #lexieschain on Twitter to join da fun. Remember anyfink goes! Rock, classical, opera, ballads, punk, reggae - is up to you! Fanx for playin!

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Fourth Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 104 of #lexieschain. So lets see wot we gots dis week.

@marleyterrier
Last week's winner was American Pie by Don McLean….his other most famous song was Starry Starry Night which was a song about Vincent Van Gogh…..Mr van Gogh was a famous painter so we have chosen another song about a famous painter. This was is Willem De Kooning, a modern painter….. he has a modern band to tell you all about him….The Manic Street Preachers and Interiors (Song For Williem De Kooning)

@baxter_man
I listen two da song, American Pie bye Dun Mcloon wif me Pa. He likes dis song verry much and he sings it two mee along wif da wideo. I know music expert and a novis at da chain fing so I thunk wat I likes about da song and IMMEDITALEE noes wat my favoryte fing bout it bee. He singing about PIE, I loves nomming on a pie, frum heer on it was easy. I just fink of me Otha favoryte pie song and won me Ma likes.

So me entry be Delilah by Tom Jones (aka Jack McWestie) basicalee because of da famouse line frum Dat song......

"PIE, PIE, PIE DELILAH dum dum dum diddy dum dum"

@djladylexie AND @WallaseKatt!
American Pie contains the lines "drove my chevy to the levy but the levy was dry and them good old boys were drinkin whisky and rye". So I was finkin old men drinkin whisky. They problay drinks it from big ole jar… so old men, drinkin whisky in jars. Who else! The Dubliners and Whisky in the Jar

@Oz_theTerrier
Last week was American Pie by Don McLean and he is quoted as saying that song represents "the turn from innocence of the 1950s to the darker, more volatile times in the 1960s - both in music and in politics". So, I chose the song Turn, Turn Turn recorded by The Byrds.

@bvfeyj
Dis first time we hab TWO winners- but we still hab to come up wif a linky and dey can fight about how dey picks da winner from dere! Oh my goodness! dere be so many choices for dis week and good ones too so me just going to pick somefing. American Pie was written and recorded by Don McLean. His first album recorded in 1969 was called Tapestry but was not a huge success, howeber one ob da best selling albums ob all time also called Tapestry was recorded in 1971 by Carole King. All da songs was written or co-written by her. So me does suggest “Tapestry” by Carole King.

Me does like dis bideo because it list some ob da many uvver songs dat she did write fur uvver peoples, some dat you may not know she did write.

@smcheetham
Hi Lexie Hope all well with you after your party sorry I couldn't make it I was out all night. My suggestion this week is When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin. American Pie has the chorus "I went to the levee but the levee was dry" levees are the dykes they build in America to stop flooding. So the link is levees that's all.

@rosieterrier
Gosh, a chainy first, two winners! Good job Borderpup and Kelso. So, I see Don McLean......Well I automatically think of the Don McClean from the 1970's show Crackerjack! (Think 'cabbages and Kings', Basil Brush [fox---grrrrr]). Many pop stars of the time performed on Crackerjack, one of these is Abba. My linky is 'Eagle' by Abba cos it makes me feel grounded! Ooops, I is turning into a seventies hippie!!

@maria7scruff
I'm finkin if we startin wiff Don McClean American Pie simple linky would be to go wiff Madonna n her vershun.... but no me finks, we duznt like it. Fink again, well I did fink again n anudder simple linky be the Pie. American pie be cherry pie.... ower brain does go Neneh Cheery n wot betta than Buffolo Stance? There it is, ma furst go at da chainy...

@diamondbertie
Last weeks winner was Don MacLean's American pie, I choose Killing Me Softly With His Song by Roberta Flack. Why? Don MacLean also sang this song

@bunnersandharvs
Well dun to da Kelso and BorderPub for winning da chainy together and at da same time! Now we been thinking about dat songy Long Long Time Ago and da lyrics wot says, Drove my chevy to da leffy and dey was drinkin whisky and rye....which did make us start a thinking bout one of Dad's fav songys wot has Whisky in it too so we is going wid Thin Lizzy's 'Whiskey in the Jar - although dey dus spell it wrong, if you is a Scottish paw, is still our linky dis week . Hit it.....

@wonderwinger
Well done Kelso & Indy on the double win giving us American Pie and Don McLean as our 1st link of 2013. I decided to keep it simple and run with the "Pie Theme". There have been quite a few songs written about pies or rather songs pretending to be about pies but my link shall be Custard Pie by Led Zeppelin.

Led Zeppelin and Don McLean can be linked further by the fact that they both reference the song "The Book of Love" by The Monotones in their songs Rock and Roll and American Pie.

@terenceterrier
Last week da winnin linky be “American Pie” by Don Maclean. The line in da songy “the day the music died” is sposed to refer to the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. Buddy Holly was an American too so I chooses one his tracks as my linky “True Love Ways”.

@patchdacat
So my chosen linkie needs to follow on from “American Pie” by Don Maclean. It is supposed to be partly abowt America in the 50’s & 60’s. So I will stick with the American theme and the same era. I choose “Back in the USA” by Chucky Berry & cos it was recorded in 1959.

So............. da winner dis week .... as chosen by @kelsoterrier and @borderpup   ... dus be ..... @bvfeyj (Tucker!). Yay!!!! Well done ma pal!

Now is time to get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you Tucker.

It's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 20 January 2013 (gots to get it to me by 2pm UK time if poss).

Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Third Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 103 of #lexieschain - the first chain of 2013! So lets see wot we gots dis week.

DON"T FORGET CHAINY AWARDS ON FRIDAY 11 JANUARY 2013 7pm-Midnight wiv prizes an dat!

@smcheetham
My chain suggestion for this week is New Years Day by U2. You sing Auld Lang Syne in the first few minutes of New Years Day so here is a song about New Years Day.

@terenceterrier
Well done @BunnersAndHarvs on winnin wiv the Mairi Campbell & Dave Francis vershun of Auld Land Syne. I sees dat songy woz on da soundtrack of the film Sex and the City. So da songy I choose for my linky dis week be “Mercy” by Duffy cos that also be on da soundtrack.

@patchdacat
I see that Mairi Campbell & Dave Francis (who sung da winning linky Auld Lang Syne) were a duo known as The Cast. After burning the midnight oil to find a linky I discovered another band called Cast. I trawled though their moosical archives & found a purrty song to be my linky this week. This be “Walk Away”.

@djladylexie
Auld Lany Syne means A Long Time Ago and also relates to Robert Burns poem. He also wrote a fantastic poem called The Twa Dogs. Annuva man wot sung bowty his dog was Cat Stevens! I decide on Love my Dog by Cat Stevens.

@wonderwinger
Superb linky last week by the awesome comic duo of Harvey & Lord Percy. Big hugs to the pair of you. However, linking to Auld Lang Syne did stump me for a while, until I remembered Robert Burns wrote the poem/song. Little known fact is that Robert Burns has a crater named after him on planet Mercury. However, the best singing Mercury of all time was of course Freddie Mercury, so obviously my choice has to be Queen -Don't Stop Me Now. Take it away Freddie,*gets into the superman pose* I'm BURNing through the skies, yeah, 200 degrees...

@rosieterrier
Well done Harvey and Mr Percy for your song 'Auld Lang Syne'. Well this is traditionally sung on New Years Eve. U2 did do a song called 'New Years Day' and this was on the album called War. Edwin Starr sang an anti-Vietnam war song of the same name (War). So now we come to my linky *wriggles body in excitement*. I choose the song 'H.A.P.P.Y. Radio' by Edwin Starr. *boogies on down in delight*.

@bvfeyj
Dis was bery difficult linky dis week. Last week we did hab @bunnersandharvs winner wif Auld Lang Syne performed by Mairi Campbell and Dave Francis. A beautiful song and an excellent version ob it. Dis song was written by Robert Burns, who be da national poet ob Scotland, well, except fur dat he been dead a long time now. Mairi Campbell dat sing it is also a Scot. So me was finking ob Robbie Burns and uvver songs dat he did write and uvver Scottish singers and bands. Mom did eben readed to me her faborite Burns poem “To a Mouse, on Turning Up Her Nest With the Plough”. By den me was all confuzzled, until me remembered a song by a modern Scottish singer/songwriter who do hab some poetic lyrics too and a song wif similar femes to Auld Lang Syne. It all about da year coming to an end an time passing an remembering peoples and places like “A girl... you once used to know”. So me did decide dat me linky is “Time Passages” by Al Stewart.

@diamondbertie
Hava Nagila sung by many artists by favourite is sung by Harry Belafonte
WHY?

Last weeks was a delightful version of Auld Lang Syne this come from a Robert Burns poem, so a search my brain for other songs from R. Burns sadly most were too rude,
I went outside and realised this song is sung at the end of a good party or get together, Hava Nagila means Let us Rejoice, Let us Sing, Let us Dance.

@kelsoterrier
Auld Lang Syne always makes me smile because it brings to mind New Year's Parties, holidays and merriment. The title means a long time ago. For this reason I immediately think of the lyrics "A long long time ago I can still remember how that music used to make me smile" which of course is from the song American Pie by Don McLean (who, with a surname like that must have a Scottish heritage!). So that is my link this week :-)

AND
@borderpup
Last week we had 'Auld Lang Syne' which did make me fink of all fings Scottish and New Year and wotnot. But then I fort wot do the words rilly mean? Well, they mean somefing like 'once upon a time' or more accurately 'long long ago'. So ma choice for dis week dus be 'American Pie' by Don Maclean! Why? Because the first line dus be 'A long, long, time ago ...' - and nuffing Scottish after all!

So, da winner dis week .... as chosen by @bunners&harvs (Harvs and Lord Percy)   ... dus be ..... oooo a first wiv da chainy! We has TWO winners! @kelsoterrier and @borderpup wiv American Pie!

Now is time to get your finkin caps on an send me (find out how on da guidelines page fing) the next link in the chain. Da winner dis week dus be pickin da winner next week and dat means you erm.... oo i dussnt no for sure ow we gonna dus it! I will send it to boaf and see if you boaf choose da same one? The first chainy of 2013!

An pals, dussnt forget 11th January 2013 we be avin our awards ceremony so you will have to wait til then to find out who dun what!

It's over to you! Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until noon (GMT) Sunday 13 January 2013.
