Lexie's Chain: The Hundred and Seventy Second Chain

Hello pals! Welcome to week 172 of #lexieschain. Last week da winner was Diamondbertie with Chatanooga Choo Choo from The Andrew Sisters. Let's see wot we gots dis week:

@WOtterface
Well, this week we decided to use the theme of siblings in a band to decide on our link and there was only one choice for us, the "easy on the eye" Jared and Shannon Leto of Thirty Seconds to Mars. So here are Thirty Seconds to Mars with Kings and Queens, it's a long video but there are shorter versions available...

@maggietkat
Well done with chattanooga choo choo! I want to stay with the transportation and war theme, this time the Viet Nam War. In 1968 the Hollie released Bus Stop as the war escalated. The harmonies interweave with a young man's dreams of love.

@freddie_bt
Few subjects have been romanticised in so much music and art as the train, nowadays in Britain at least trains have lost some appeal being nothing more than functional at best. The charm though lives on in posters, privately run steam trains and "The Night Mail" made in 1936 by the GPO Film Unit for which W.H. Auden's beautiful rhythmic poem was commisioned. The narrated poem transformed a documentary into a work of art that was more about people's desire for companionship and contact than it was about a mobile sorting office. Thankfully Public Service Broadcasting still exists though now as a 3 piece band. They used clips from the film and Auden's poem in an evocative song and video with soaring Rickenbacker and drums driving it along at a cracking pace. The video is surely an homage to O. Winston Link's photography, railway sidings at night, silent trains and bright light. Night Mail.

@skye613
Bertie chose a great link from the very famous trio the Andrews Sisters. Seems another famous trio jumped on that train and went to see Elvis!

@smcheetham
Morning all well done Bertie for last week. Bertie's choice was by the Andrews Sisters who were real sisters. I have gone therefore with a sisters link to First Aid Kit who are sisters from Stockholm who have perfected the sibling close harmony singing. They are very young and their voices are so clear and so beautifully harmonised. I have choose their song Lions Roar I hope you enjoy listening and all have a good week.

@bunnersandharvs
So den well dun to dat Bertie & his hoomans fur choo chooosing a great linky last week! We lykes dem Andrews songy Chattanooga Choo Choo. It gots us thinking about being on trains and well you eventually comes to da end of da line eventually and dis gots us thinking about a songy we dus lyke and guess wot? It's song on a train, well a freight train and is by The Traveling Wilburys and is called 'End of the Line. Good luck choosing your linky dis week pal.

@terenceterrier
Last week winnin linky woz Chattanooga Choo Choo by The Andrews Sisters. The Beverley Sisters were 3 sisters in the UK from the same era who were similar in style to the Andrews. I choose for my linky their record which was the only one which made it in the US charts . It be “" Greensleeves”.

@borderpup
We bin pondering on a linky from Chattanooga Choo Choo, hmmm. First we did fink about all the different places the song mentioned, which made us fink of looking for a song which mentions place names and has been a hit in many different countries and in different versions. And guess what? That did bring us back to a train again! And not sisters this time, but brothers! (Ok, they weren't really related, but that's what they were called!) The Doobie Brothers wiv Long Train Runnin'.

@djladylexie
The Andrew Sisters were an american group of sisters who were well known during the swing and boogie-woogie era of the 1930s and 1940's. One of their uvva famous songs wot they sung was Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, heavily associated with world war ii. The bugle is a brass instrument that dussnt av no valves to help wiv pitch. All pitch control is done by the player using facial muscles and lips to alter the sound. Annuva brass instrument wot is easier on the face muscles and lips dus be the trombone. Course, a great band leader and trombonist who worked wiv Andrew Sisters could only be Glenn Miller. So we go wiv Glenn Miller and In The Mood.
