Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Sixtieth Chain

Hello pals. Welcome to week 260 of #lexieschain. Last week the winner was Terence wiv Heroes from David Bowie. Let's see what we got this week.

@claptonterrier
last week Terence very rightly chose a song by David Bowie….”Heroes” was one of the most famous songs from his Berlin period…..this week our link is a Leonard Cohen song….”First We take Manhattan”…wait?….what?…where is the link I hear you woofing…well the second line of the chorus is “then we’ll take Berlin”….we have chosen our version of the song by Jennifer Warnes..becasue we like it better than the original.

@izzy_border
So the winner last week was the amazing tune  Heroes by David Bowie. Now dis was released in the fabtastic year of 1977. In my mums life this was one of her best years (don't ask!!) so we decided to pick a tune from this year - but what? It was the year Fleetwood Mac released Rumours, one of the best albums ever. The best selling album of 1977 was Abba Arrival so we really wanted to go with Dancing Queen. But then the untimely death of Glen Frey of the Eagles came to mind. The track everyone equates with the Eagles is Hotel California and in fantastic Lexie chain symmetry this was number 1 in May 1977. So Hotel California it is!

@wotterface
Well done to T for winning last week with David Bowie and Heroes. A hero is someone who saved you so my choice this week is Turin Brakes with Underdog (Save Me).

@bunnersandharvs
So Ter won last week wid his linky by da hero David Bowie who sung Hero. And now dat he dus be gone it gots us thinking he a star now and not only a star but a shining star so dat our linky dis week by Earth Wind and Fire - Shining Star. No matter who you are....

@cloonfourmegan
Sir Terence won last week with Heroes. This was the song the GB team came out to in the 2012 Olympics. At the beginning of that wonderful Danny Boyle  opening ceremony we first saw Frank Turner complete with sheep dogs and one of the songs he sang was I Believe and we have liked him ever since!

@skye613
Heros come in every size, shape, nationality, color and gender. They are famous, infamous or known only to a select few. Each day a new one is born. Or we lose one. Have lost to many recently. I believe we all have the opportunity to become heros. My linky " Local Hero ".

@maggietkat
Well done Sir with David Bowie's "Heroes". One of Bowie's discoveries was Stevie Ray Vaughn after Double Trouble played Montreaux82. Bowie asked that Vaughn play lead on his Let's Dance album. this is one of Vaughn's compositions, Pride and Joy. Chain path? Bowie was hero of discovery for Vaughn who then became Bowie's protege/Pride and Joy.

@djladylexie
Terence won wiv Heroes from David Bowie. David Bowie and Brian Eno co-wrote the song which was released in 1977. Eno is known for his unusual and ambient music. Bowie starred in the movie The Man Who Fell to Earth. David Bowie. Interestingly in 2012, a documentary of Eno's life from 1971-1977 was released entitled The Man Who Fell To Earth. He also appears in Ride, Rise and Roar a documentary chronicling the songs of another great artists, David Byrne. So, I am going with a great Talking Heads number also released in 1977 - Psycho Killer.

@sonikebt
@TerenceTerrier chose a great winning link with "Heroes" by David Bowie. Our hero is the late Tony Benn and our link this week is one of his favourite songs "Joe Hill" sung by Joan Baez.

An da winner as choosed by Terence dus be ......................... Megan (@cloonfourmegan wiv Frank Turner and I Believe. Yay! Well done me pal you dus be choosin next week.

Ere wot Tel said: Wowser ! Wot a lot of cleva linkies dis week.  In da end I wittled da nine down to three – linky 1 “First We Take Manhatten” (admits to a penchant to Cohen songs) linky 2 “Hotel California” (could listen to da long guitar section at da end over n over all day cos it brill) and linky 5 “I Believe” (wot a happy lively bunch havin a good time ) . All 3 used good linky logic but in da end I choose linky 5 - Frank Turner wiv “I Believe” cos it made us smile n boogie abowt n sing along to it.

Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Fifty Ninth Chain

Hello pals. Welcome to week 259 of #lexieschain. Last week the winner was Skye wiv Hey Ho from the Lumineers. Let's see what we got this week.

@izzy_border
So Skye won with the  Lumineers 'Ho Hey' last week. Out of respect for the great David Bowie Mum wanted to find a link with the Lumineers.  Now I happen to know dat the Lumineers began to play together in New Jersey and Wesley Shultz lived and worked in Brooklyn and New York  - which is where Bowie lived and died. I did tell mum and she said that's a good link! Mum has chosen her favourite Bowie song 'Starman' because my hoobruv sings a bit and this was the first song he sang for people when he was 5.

@maggietkat
Well done Skye with Ho Hey. I recognized the song immediately as the closer for the tv show Hart of Dixie. One of the leading men is also a singer. He sang a couple times on the show and had a fair voice. Here is Pretend by Scott Parker and the Glory Dogs.

@terenceterrier
Larst week pal Skye winned wiv The Lumineers n “Ho Hey” . Dis woz released in 2012. In da same year da Olympics were held in London n da British team came owt to da David Bowie songy “Heroes” . You will always be our hero Bowie not just for one day. Remember pals “They never die, they just go to sleep one day”. My good pal Tucker will be delighted to meet Bowie OTRB. Tucker always luvved a live vershun of a linky so here it is.

@wotterface
So last week's winner was the Lumineers with Ho Hey. There was only one song we could choose this week and it's from a band that the Lumineers remind us of so that suits us fine as our link. But ultimately it let us choose Arcade Fire and David Bowie with Wake Up. X

@claptonterrier
Hello Miss Lexie…last week Miss Skye chose a song by the Lumineers….I can only assume that their name means they go around lighting lights…..but sometimes there are things that don’t want to be out in the light…and so our linky this week is “Dark End of the Street” ..a song about stolen love….and we have chosen a version by Percy Sledge…

@cloonfourmegan
Well done Skye on winning last week. We couldn't see the bloggy on da website and we forgot wot Skye won wiv. So... we just pick Mum's favourite David Bowie song which remind her of being a student under the moonlight the serious moonlight.

@djladylexie
Skye won wiv Hey Ho by the Lumineers. First we had Hoots Mon. Hoots meanin Hey. Then we had Hey Ho. Hi Ho is what the dwarves sing when they is off to work. Dwarves are a mythical race of short stocky creatures wot are good at mining. Dwarves are also known as gnomes wot are known for their gardening skills and comic approach to life. They laugh a lot apparently. Hahaha, hehehe they go all day long. Well, David Bowie knew all about that when he wrote the Laughing Gnome so that's my linky!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEsm4RK9AYc

@sonikebt
@Syke613 won last weeks link with the great Ho Hey by The Lumineers. Lumineers are also the name of dental veneers and a nice row of pearly whites would make you grin. So our link this week from the brilliant Bowie is "Lady Grinning Soul"

An da winner as choosed by Skye  ............ dus be ......................................Terence! Yay well done me pal! You choosin next week.

Ere wot Skye said: Every tune is wonderful. But there is only one that can be best link this week. Number 3. For David and Tucker. Thanks pals great music ðŸŽ¶

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 24th January 2016 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Fifty Eighth Chain

Hello pals. Welcome to week 257 of #lexieschain. Last week the winner was Wyn wiv Hoots Mon from Lord Rockingham. Let's see what we got for the second chainy of 2016.

@djladylexie
Last week Wyn won wiv Hoots Mon. Hoots Mon is scottish for hey there. Now the cockerney for Hoots Mon dus be Oi Oi. One of the great cockerney duos dus be Chas N Dave wot dun lots of cockerney songs some of which was hard to understand. Now one of these was Gertcha which loosely translates into get out of here. So we gowin wiv annuva nonsensical number Gercha from Chas n Dave.

@gd_hattie
I did like the song about the loose moose and I got a thinkin' what I loves more after working hard then going my park being let loose and rolling around in all the smelliest stuff I find and even more when the big puddle is on the field!

@cloonfourmegan
Last week Wynter won wiv the fab Lord Rockingham's X1. We fort to continue the aristocratic theme so we pick Lorde  with Royals. You can call me Queen Bee!

@claptonterrier
last week Wyn won with a song called Hoots Mon….we have an owl that lives near us that goes hoot in his tree…but we think its a bit of a sad song and we think he wishes he could do some nice singing like the other birds…so this week our link is “Lullaby of Birdland” …and we have chosen a version by Ella Fitzgerald.

@skye613
Why i love this game, because i learn something new each time we play. Looking up the meaning of Hoots Mon, I found out that a literal translation means " Hey" so putting on ma thinking cap this is my linky. " Ho Hey" maybe means Ho Hoots Mon, BOL!

@terenceterrier
Larst week Wyn won wiv  da linky “Hoots Mon” by Lord Rockinghams XI. Their previous record woz “Fried Onions”. Dis woz used in a TV advert for Options hot chocolate drink. Corse dere be a group called Hot Chocolate. Becos  Wyn woz da fur wot win lexieschain I give yoo da linky “So You Win Again”

@maggietkat
Well done with the humorous hoots MOn! The predominant instrument in that song is a saxophone. So I thought I would go whole hog saxophones with the group Neclear Whales. My hopes for this year are is good for us regular anipals. I hope you like Fanfare for the Common Man.

@sonikebt
Wyn did win the first chain of the year with "Hoots Mon" which was used in an advert for Maynard's sweets. Reference to the name Maynard can be found in a song by one of our favourite Scottish bands. So instead of chasing loose mooses around our hoose we are being all intellectual and "Sipping down raki and reading Maynard Keynes", Dignity by Deacon Blue.

@izzy_border
I've chosen You Know by Connah Evans. Last weeks song was Hoots Mon. Ynys Mon is Anglesey in Welsh and Connah is an Anglesey boy, furthermore the video was filmed at Newborough beach and forest on Anglesey. So the link is MON!!!

@bunnersandharvs
So da Wyn got cleva wid dat silly magoo of linky last week frum Lord Rockingham barking nonsense. And we says dat sumtimes if we puts da right nonsense together, you might get majik. Well da furry Gordmuther did anyway so our linky dis week is Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo in Cinderella! Have fun choosin, Wyn.

An da winner as choosed by Wyn  ............ dus be ......................................Skye! Yay well done me pal! You choosin next week.

Ere wot Wyn said: Well here we go again with another year of Lexieschain! So I really wanted to pick something I'd never heard before but Mom insisted on choosing Link 5, the Lumineers with Ho Hey. Mainly because she's feeling a bit melancholy as the great David Bowie has gone back to space and this song cheers her up as she used to sing it to Abe when he was tiny "I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweetheart".

So it's over to you. Email me: lexie at toxicpenguin dot com or DM me on twitter (@dogstoyevsky) wiv your link suggestion followin on from dis one! You has until 17th January 2016 (gets it to me by 2pm UK time if poss). Oh sometimes I dus accidentally delete em! Heehee. So good idea to type DO NOT DELETE in the title and dussnt forget to send a linky to da video from You Tube!

Lexie's Chain: The Two Hundred and Fifty Seventh Chain

Hello pals. Welcome to week 257 of #lexieschain. Last week the winner was Megan wiv Inner Circle and Sweat. Let's see what we got for the first chainy of 2016.

@diamondbertie
Happy new year last week @cloonfourmegan won with Nathaniel and the Sweats, perfect antidote to the terrible weather we are all enduring, well done Wyn. My choice is also keeping the Caribbean mood has to be Bob Marley singing Three Little Birds.

@terenceterrier
Larst week pal Megan winned wiv Sweat by Inner Circle. Da Inner Circle woz da early name for da Circle Line on da London Underground. Dis makes me fink of da rock band Velvet Underground. So for my linky dis week I gives yoo their track Rock and Roll  cos if yoo gonna sweat if yoo do da rock n roll dances.

@sonikebt
@CloonfourMegan won last week with Sweat by Inner Circle. The name of the band did remind us of the Glasgow Subway which has both an inner and outer circle. As we know when we go on the Subway we are "Going Underground" like our link this week by the Jam.

@gd_hattie
Gym class heroes - clothes off! You'd get sweaty at gym class. It's about partying and what with all the partying lately I'm sure people have been sweaty and had to take their clothes off for a shower. BOL!

@skye613
Happy 2016 fellow chainy pals! Loved this weeks tune and the beautiful vid. In the cold of winter I wanted to continue the warm beachy feelings with a soft breeze. Enjoy!

@claptonterrier
Hello Miss Lexie…last week Miss Megan chose a song by Inner Circle and so this week we have been thinking about shapes….and so our link this week is the song “Hip To Be Square” by Huey Lewis and the News…

@bunnersandharvs
So cleva paws Megan won last week wid da songy 'Sweat' wot be about a girl wot he wants to make sweat...uhmmm okey. So dis gots us thinking about another songy about a guy who is also a bit doollalee about a girl and not just any girl but 'That Girl' sung by Stevie Wonder he wants to tell her dat he luvs her, dat he needs hur....Wot dus it be about girls? We dusn't know even tho Mum is one but Stevie's songy dus be da one we using for our linky dis week.

@djladylexie
Ma link is all about the sweat! When you go to the gym you sweat a lot when you do a workout.  Olivia Newton John dun a song when she was  working out in a leotard which can get pretty sweaty! so my link is olivia newton John and let's get physical.

@wotterface
Last week's winner was the song Sweat (A la la la la long) so I've chosen another song with nonsense words in the title. It's a song that was also used in the bonkers Maynard Wine Gums adverts too. I love it! It's Hoots Mon by Lord Rockingham's XI.

An da winner as choosed by Megan ............ dus be ...................................... Wyn! Yay well done me pal for bein the first winner of 2016! You choosin next week.

Ere wot Megan said: I is very honoured to pick the first chainy of 2016 and what lovely happy choices we have. Me and mum have listened and had a good bop and well we just can't get stop singing " There's a moose loose aboot this hoose!" and we pick Linky no 9!
Happy 2016 everyone !
